The Anglican Racket

I've had to defer my next post on Frederick Kinsman at least until tomorrow, as I received a lot of material for a post on my old blog on developments at Our Lady of the Atonement San Antonio.

It seems to me that phenomena like the racket Fr Christopher Phillips was able to run for almost three decades at Our Lady of the Atonement, in which he indulged himself and selected underbosses at the expense of people who were allowed to fancy they were getting authentic Catholicism, is an extension of Kinsman's take on Anglicanism -- especially for high-church types, there has always been a key element of fantasy.

I'll have more to say about this, but it's definitely a factor in the failure of Anglicanorum coetibus.

Mars And The Living Desert Problem

I keep thinking back on the Mars mission special I watched a week ago. A space probe professor type made a remark that, to the great disappointment of all the space probe professors, Mars looked like the Sonoran desert or something. Well, not actually. the 1953 Disney film The Living Desert simply contradicts that characterization. The Sonoran desert doesn't look much like Mars at all. What appears to be the conventional wisdom promoted in the current media discussion of life on Mars is that, given liquid water and t amount of time, life will appear in some microbial form and evolve from there. The quantity given for t is at most a billion years, because that's the time span Mars is supposed to have had liquid water. Where they got that isn't explained, but let's grant it. The FBI is coming closer to saying it , but it's still talking around the point: The FBI on Monday delivered a warning to the public: don’t shoot guns or point lasers at mysterious drones in the sky. Pilots of manned aircraft are increasingly being hit in the eyes with lasers because people on the ground think they see a drone, according to the FBI’s field office in Newark, New Jersey. The FBI is also concerned that people might shoot a gun at a manned aircraft after mistaking it for a drone. Notice that the clumsily worded release mentions "manned aircraft", but it doesn't use a much clearer phrase, "commercial airliner", which is what the vast majority of these sightings are.
